Rumor: NFL Insider Weighs in On Potential Jimmy Garoppolo Trade to Browns

Is Jimmy G on his way to Cleveland?

Now that the Deshaun Watson suspension is final, we know for sure he’ll be missing 11 games, which means Deshaun Watson won’t be returning to the team until at the very least Week 13. So are the  Brown comfortable with Jacoby Brissett for the bulk  of the season,  or are the Browns interested in acquiring Jimmy G’s particular set of skills.  Jimmy has been linked to the Browns for months leading up to to the Watson news. .

NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared a contrasting update on the Jimmy Garoppolo-Browns trade rumors, per Pat McAfee.

“But to answer your question about Jimmy G and the Browns,” Rapoport said to McAfee. “I’ve seen some reports. I just don’t get the sense that the Browns are that interested. I just don’t. I mean, they signed Jacoby Brissett for a reason. If they trade for Jimmy G, it’s 20-plus more million dollars. Not that money is the biggest concern… I’ve checked with everyone, maybe something will surprise me, I just do not get the sense that there is that much interest.”

Although Jimmy Garoppolo may definitely be an upgrade over Brissett, it’s really not that much of an upgrade. Plus the team is not likely wanting to pay him big money after handing Watson a fully guaranteed $230 million contract after trading for him over the offseason.

Rapoport’s report doesn’t eliminate the chance of the Browns trading for Garoppolo, but it sounds unlikely to happen.

That means Jimmy G will need to look elsewhere to find a new home. God knows he’s in need of a serious change of scenery.
