Jimmy Garoppolo Trade News: 49ers GM John Lynch Gives Update On Potential Move For Veteran Quarterback

Will the 49ers be trading Jimmy Garoppolo ahead of the season?

After announcing they were turning over the offense to young quarterback, Trey Lance, following their playoff exit last season, many believed Garoppolo would be traded rather quickly.

But with the season right around the corner, Jimmy G remains a member of the 49ers. However, San Francisco GM John Lynch admitted that could be changing in the near future.

“Yeah, you know I think we’re getting pretty close,” Lynch said when asked about a potential trade by The Athletic’s Matt Barrows.

When asked if Jimmy Garoppolo could remain on the 49ers when the regular season begins, head coach Kyle Shanahan admitted that it was entirely possible.

“I think any scenario is possible.”

“I communicate with Jimmy all the time,” Shanahan said in his press conference. “He looks the same as he always has. He always throws it really good. So, he looks the exact same.”

After Deshaun Watson was hit with an 11 game suspension, rumors indicated that the Browns might make a run at Jimmy Garoppolo to hold down the fort for the time being. But it appears as though they’re content moving forward with veteran Jacoby Brissett for now.

Last season, Garoppolo turned in another solid season as a pro. He completed 68.3% of his passes, throwing for 3,810 yards to go along with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

You’d have to imagine that Jimmy Garoppolo would be an upgrade over many current starting quarterbacks around the NFL. But perhaps he’ll have to wait until teams suffer injuries to their quarterback room before being sent away from the Niners.
