Phil Jackson Reportedly Wants Lakers To Trade LeBron James

Could Phil Jackson really convince the Lakers to trade LeBron James this offseason?

Amid their search for a new head coach, Lakers fans and execs became irked when it was revealed that Jackson was working as a consultant for Lakers ownership to find their next head man.

Now, Phil Jackson reportedly has some more advice for the Lakers’ brass: trade LeBron James.

Per LA Times writer Bill Plaschke:

I’ve heard that Phil would like LeBron traded. I’ve just heard that but I’ve got nothing to back that up. No on-the-record stuff to back that up. I do know that Phil would like to keep Westbrook and try to make that work with him,” Plaschke said on the “Doug Gottlieb Show” on Tuesday.

Lakers owner Jeanie Buss admitted that she was getting input from Phil Jackson and Magic Johnson, but also instead that general manager Rob Pelinka has her full support.

Back in 2016, LeBron James took issue with Phil Jackson calling him and his inner circle a “posse”.

“To use that label, and if you go and read the definition of what the word ‘posse’ is, it’s not what I’ve built over my career,” James said at the time, via NBC Sports. “It’s not what I stand for, it’s not what my family stands for. I believe the only reason he used that word is because he sees young African Americans trying to make a difference.”
