According To An NFL Insider, There’s Maybe Only One Option For Jimmy Garoppolo

According to Mike Florio at Pro Football Talk, the only option the San Francisco 49ers may have is to cut QB Jimmy Garoppolo.

In the article, it discusses the fact that the 49ers are having a tough time finding a trading partner who is coming off shoulder surgery to repair the labrum in his throwing shoulder and is due a $25 million package.

The 49ers have until the eve of the first week of the season to make a full decision as Garappolo’s guaranteed money doesn’t lock in until then. Because he is in the last year of his contract, cutting him would only leave $1.4 million in dead money and it would instantly create more than $25 million in cap space.

Jimmy G only managed to play in 15 games this season, but his totals weren’t actually that bad compared to his other full season with San Francisco.

The 49ers are expected to roll with their 3rd overall pick last year, Trey Lance, this season. The 49ers no doubt have been trying to move Garappolo, but to no avail.

The QB carousel has been wild this off-season in the NFL as we have already seen massive moves for QBs such as Russell Wilson headed to Denver and Deshaun Watson being moved to Cleveland. We also had Carson Wentz traded to Washington and then the Colts trading for Matt Ryan.

I have no doubt we will see more moves as the draft approaches as multiple teams are still furiously looking to fill their void, or move their guy, such as the Browns with Baker Mayfield and the 49ers with Jimmy G.
