All Signs Point To Trey Lance Starting Over Jimmy Garoppolo Before Too Long

All offseason into Training Camp we’ve been hearing from San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan that the team doesn’t have much of a quarterback competition, and Jimmy Garoppolo is the starter over rookie Trey Lance.

But as Trey Lance has been turning heads in the early going of Training Camp, it looks like the dynamic might be changing in the bay.

Niners beat reporters are noticing that Trey Lance is much more of a problem for defenses than the limited Jimmy G.

It’s not hard to imagine that this scenario would play itself out during Niners camp. Trey Lance simply has the “wow” factor that Jimmy Garoppolo doesn’t possess.

Lance can use his legs much more than Garoppolo, and the arm isn’t lagging, either.

Just check out this ball:

On Tuesday, Trey Lance was already taking reps with the Niners’ first team.

Niners general manager John Lynch admitted that Trey Lance has looked phenomenal so far in Training Camp.

“He’s looked tremendous,” Lynch shared via 49ers Web Zone. “He really has. I think what’s been most impressive about Trey, everyone wants to talk about physical traits, but the way he approaches his job, he’s a pro in its truest sense.”

It might not happen tomorrow, or next week, or even before the first week of the NFL season. But Trey Lance will be the 49ers quarterback before too long.
