ESPN Got Tricked By A Fake Adam Schefter Twitter Account And Had To Apologize

ESPN appears to have gotten duped by a fake Adam Schefter Twitter account. Earlier today, ESPN published an article that the Miami Dolphins had fired offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. “The Miami Dolphins have parted ways with offensive coordinator Chan Gailey, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter,” the article read.

Only problem? Gailey has not been fired. Miami beat writers were quick to refute the story.

ESPN says that Chan Gailey has not been fired and the error has been corrected and the story has been removed. ESPN said it was in no way's Schefter's fault. Schefter, in fact, hasn't reported anything on Gailey.

So if Adam Schefter never reported that Gailey was fired, how did ESPN receive the information? Well, it appears that got tricked by one of many fake Adam Schefter accounts on Twitter.

ESPN has issued a correction. Not only did they post this on their site, but they also mentioned it on the air during the 1 PM ET edition of SportsCenter.

What a big day for the people who pretend to be famous journalists on the internet. Honestly, though, this is pretty embarrassing for ESPN. I get it, we live in a day-in-age where breaking news is in high demand, but you have to double check your story before publishing it to the entire world.

I just hope Chan Gailey didn’t see the ESPN story and wonder “did I just get fired?”

The Miami Dolphins offense wasn’t the best, and Tua Tagovailoa hasn’t looked like a franchise quarterback in his first season, but they also shouldn’t be pressing the panic button. Nobody expected Miami to be contenders this season, and they pulled out a respectable year. They finished 10-6, and just missed out on a playoff spot in the AFC.

It looks like Chan Gailey’s job is safe. At least for now.
