John Elway Gives Himself Promotion, Looks To Hire General Manager

Denver Broncos legend John Elway has decided that he wants to bring in some fresh blood to help him make football decisions in the team’s operations department. Elway announced today that he’ll be given up his general manager title, while remaining the head of football operations. He’ll be leading the search to find the next general manager of the Denver Broncos.

“Working in this role for the last 10 years and going back to my playing days, I’ve always tried to do everything I can to help the Broncos win and get better,” Elway said in a statement. “As part of a transition I’ve thought about for a long time, I have made the decision to step up into an elevated role and hire a general manager to lead our personnel and football staff.”

“While I’ll continue to be President of Football Operations in 2021, the GM will have final say on the draft, free agency and our roster. This person will be empowered to make all football decisions, working in partnership with Vic.”

It seems like John Elway has taken a good look in the mirror after the Broncos have been bottom-feeders in the AFC for the past few seasons. Elway’s most glaring flaw as GM was that he could never get the quarterback position right. Elway has tried everything from the draft to free agency to fill the most important position in all of sports, but has failed time and time again to find a productive QB.

I find it a little interesting that Elway made sure to mention that the next GM will be working hand-in-hand with head coach Vic Fangio in the future. Wouldn’t you think that the new general manager should be allowed to decide for himself whether or not the coach should stick around? After all, it’s not like Fangio has been impressive at the helm. The 62-year-old is 12-20 in his first two seasons as head coach.

Anyways, kudos to John Elway for recognizing that it was time to shake things up, hopefully he can find the right guy to deliver a winner to the city Denver.
