Cole World: 35-Year-Old Rapper J. Cole Is Getting His Shot In The NBA In Motor City

Fellow rapper and friend of J. Cole, Master P., recently made a public statement that Cole has been training like crazy to get his shot in the NBA. His hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed. J. Cole showcased his talents on the hardwood in the 2012 NBA celebrity All-Star game. Now it looks like the Grammy Award-winning artist will get a legit shot at making an NBA roster.

Master P landed two contracts in the ’90s with the Raptors and Hornets, so Cole wouldn’t be the first rapper to make his mark on the NBA. J. Cole actually tried out for the basketball team at St. John’s University in his college run. However, he didn’t show up when he received the callback and decided to focus on his music. It’s no secret that Cole can ball. He made his presence known on the court in the NBA celebrity All-Star game and has been spotted hooping with one of the NBA’s best in Kevin Durant.

He may be 35, but Cole definitely has the ambition to make it in the NBA. The rapper has made several basketball references in his music, alluding to his hoop game. β€œI ball, I ball like Kobe in the fall. Put trophies on my wall, rather trophies on my mantle,” Cole said in his 2011 hit track: Cole World. It seems unlikely that Cole gets rostered by the Pistons at his age, but you don’t get recognized by the NBA if you’re a scrub.

The Pistons haven’t been like the “Bad Boys” they were in the ’80s and ’90s for a while now, so they could use all the help they can get. Plus, who wouldn’t want to see J. Cole throw a lob to one of the NBA’s best dunkers, Blake Griffin. I can already picture the headlines. It could just be a publicity stunt by the Pistons. Nevertheless, I am rooting for Cole to get his shot.
