Bettors Were Quick to Put Heavy Money on Brooklyn Nets to Win NBA Championship Following Kevin Durant News

After all the noise of the offseason, the Kevin Durant saga will end in an anti-climactic manner.

Today, Nets GM Sean marks announced in a statement that after meeting with Durant and the team’s brass, the superstar forward has agreed to return to the team for next season.

“Steve Nash and I, together with Joe Tsai and Clara Wu Tsai, met with Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman in Los Angeles yesterday. We have agreed to move forward with our partnership.  We are focusing on basketball, with one collective goal in mind: build a long lasting franchise to bring a championship to Brooklyn,” Marks said in the statement.

Almost immediately, bettors started hammering the Nets to win the NBA championship next season now that Kevin Durant is aboard.

According to Max Meyer of Caesars Sportsbook, six bettors put over $1000 on the Nets to win the championship within 90 minutes of the team releasing their statement on Durant.

“There were 6 $1000+ bets put on the Nets to win the NBA title in a 90-minute span at @CaesarsSportsfollowing KD news today. Only 6 other NBA teams (Warriors, Celtics, Lakers, Clippers, Suns, Nuggets) have gotten at least 6 $1000+ title bets since odds were first put up on 5/28,” Meyer said in a tweet.

Even though they were as high as 50-1 to win next season’s NBA Championship at one point this offseason, the line jumped to +750 after Durant agreed to return today.

As as right now, the expectation is that the Nets will attempt to run it back with the trio of Durant, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons even after the tumultuous 2021-22 season.

Still, Kevin Durant remains one of (if not the best) players in the NBA. And as long as the Nets have him on board, they should have a chance to win the championship.
