One Team Left Being Linked To Jimmy Garoppolo Amid Wild Offseason

With all the moves involving star players this offseason, it’s kind of hard not to forget that Jimmy Garoppolo still has not found a new home.

With the Niners being fully prepared to hand over the reigns to Trey Lance, it feels like it’s not a matter of if, but when, Jimmy G gets traded. However, potential suitors are starting to dwindle.

So far, the Steelers, Browns, Broncos, Colts, and Seahwks (?) have filled their voids at the quarterback position, meaning there are really only a couple teams left who don’t have a plan at signal-caller for next season.

On Tuesday, it was rumored that the Panthers might end up settling on a Jimmy Garoppolo trade after failing on both the Deshaun Watson and Russell Wilson sweepstakes.

Per Peter King of NBC:

“I don’t think there’s a good market at all. I think the 49ers are best off doing one of two things. Trying to trade him for Sam Darnold straight up with Carolina, because I think Carolina would view that as an improvement. Or hanging on to Jimmy until somebody gets hurt on August 28th. In that time, Jimmy Garoppolo is going to be healthy. He’s going to be able to throw the ball well. There’s nothing wrong with the 49ers waiting. They shouldn’t hand him to somebody.”

Similar to the past two years, Jimmy Garoppolo has to feel vastly disrespected right about now. During his time in The Bay, all Jimmy G has done is win — going 33-14 and making back-to-back Conference Championships.

But the veteran has shown limitations in his game, along with being injury prone year-after-year. And at this point, it looks like most teams have been scared away.

For the Panthers to make a move on Jimmy Garoppolo, they’d likely have to trade Sam Darnold along with a draft pick or two. But when looking at potential options around the league, it might make the most sense for Carolina to make the call to San Francisco.
