NFL Insider Believes Jimmy Garoppolo Could Start For the 49ers

The Jimmy G. era might not be over just yet.

With Trey Lance ready to take over as the starter in San Fran, where does that leave Jimmy G? Will he be shipped, or will the Niners run it back with the handsome signal caller. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport went on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday and dropped a some interesting news. Rapoport thinks there’s a chance Garoppolo is actually the 49ers’ starting quarterback during the 2022 NFL season.

Garoppolo has won plenty of games for the 49ers, just not the big one. But the Niners will most likely be an NFC contender again this year. A lot of the veterans in the locker room are close with Jimmy and might be more on board with him rather than see Trey Lance develop.

However the Niners did give up first-round picks in 2021, 2022 and 2023, plus their third-rounder in 2022 to get Trey Lance. Might be time to throw him out there and see what he can do. We already know what Jimmy can and can’t do.
