One reporter went hard at Carson Wentz, perhaps a bit too hard.
Washington Commanders president Jason Wright is not happy with the way one reporter handled an interview with quarterback Carson Wentz. Wright implied that he would restrict the reporter’s access after a “pompous, unprofessional” back and forth interview with the Commanders QB1. The reporter in question is Scott Abraham, who works for ABC 7 in Washington, D.C. Abraham sat down with Wentz and offered up some blunt questions about Wentz’s struggles in camp and around the NFL.
Wright took issue with the way the interview went down.
“Real talk here, Carson: It’s been well-documented, Philly didn’t want you, Indy didn’t want you. Do you think this is your last chance to prove you can be a starting quarterback in the NFL?” Abraham asked.

Thankfully, Carson demonstrated grace & class in response to this pompous, unprofessional mess. I recognize you have made a living on childlike provocation but it needs to be called out. Donât expect special access and good luck building rapport with the guys @Scott7news . https://t.co/fegxgvcJmr

Wright continued to blast the interview:
You can honestly say, âPhilly didnât want you, Indy didnât want youâ is an appropriate tone? We value giving extraordinary access to local media & Lord knows canât avoid hard questions here. But disrespect should never be tolerated and we should defend our guys when it surfaces.

I think the tone is obvious. Private conversations have been had and enough is enough. Weâve spent the last two years re-introducing ourselves and establishing a collaborative way of working with media. But being kind & values driven does not mean being a doormat.

To Wentz’s credit, he didn’t flinch at all. He didn’t get flustered or frustrated by the way the questions were asked, and sat there and politely answered the questions. The interview clip Wright criticized didn’t go viral due to Wentz’s reaction. It went viral due to the how the reporter was trying to bait him, it was more about the undertone of his questions.
With that said, Wright threatening to limit Abraham’s “special access” is one way to send a message to reporters.
The interview could be classified as troll job, but the questions were not that out of line, just out of place.
