Thom Brennaman Calling Games In Puerto Rico After On-Air Anti-Gay Slur

Disgraced longtime Cincinnati Reds announcer, Thom Brennaman, has landed a new job. According to Ken Rosenthal, Brennaman will be taking his talents to Puerto Rico to call games for The Roberto Clemente League. Brennaman resigned following his on-air use of an anti-gay slur during a Reds game.

This is a short turnaround for Brennaman, after the hot mic caught him using the anti-gay slur during a Cincinnati Reds game four months ago. As if it matters, the announcer later said he thought his broadcast was in commercial. Brennaman issued an apology, then left in the middle of the game. The funny part was that while Thom Brennaman was doing his best to issue a heartfelt apology, Nicholas Castellans was hitting a home run. Here’s the video.

“I made a comment earlier tonight that I guess went out over the air that I am deeply ashamed of. If I have hurt anyone out there, I can’t tell you how much I say, from the bottom of my heart, I am so very, very sorry. I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith—as here’s a drive into deep left field by Castellanos, it will be a home run, and so that’ll make it a 4–nothing ballgame—I don’t know if I’m going to be putting on this headset again. I don’t know if it’s going to be for the Reds. I don’t know if it’s going to be for my bosses at Fox. I want to apologize for the people who sign my paycheck. For the Reds, for Fox Sports Ohio, for the people I work with, for anybody that I’ve offended here tonight: I can’t begin to tell you how deeply sorry I am. That is not who I am. It never has been. And I’d like to think maybe I could have some people that, that could back that up. I am very, very sorry, and I beg for your forgiveness,” Brennaman says.

Well, Thom Brennaman said he doesn’t know if he’ll be putting on that headset again. He will have the chance to put on a headset, but it won’t be for the Cincinnati Reds or even in a MLB game. Maybe Brennaman can get his act together in Puerto Rico.
