Trevor Lawrence Is Not A ‘Win A Super Bowl At All Costs’ Kind Of Guy

There is little doubt that Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence will be the #1 overall pick in the NFL at the end of the month. So naturally, fans want to know a little bit more about the guy. How he goes about his business, what makes him tick, what his mindset is, etc.

Luckily, Sports Illustrated’s Michael Rosenberg did a whole long interview with Lawrence and members of his family as they prepare for his future as an NFL quarterback.

Some comments that Trevor Lawrence made turned some heads for NFL fans. Mainly, that he doesn’t approach the game like he has something to prove at all times.

Per Sports Illustrated:

“I want to do it because I want to be the best I can be. I want to maximize my potential. Who wouldn’t want to? You kind of waste it if you don’t.”
It’s hard to explain that because I want people to know that I’m passionate about what I do and it’s really important to me, but . . . I don’t have this huge chip on my shoulder, that everyone’s out to get me and I’m trying to prove everybody wrong,

“It’s hard to explain that because I want people to know that I’m passionate about what I do and it’s really important to me, but . . . I don’t have this huge chip on my shoulder, that everyone’s out to get me and I’m trying to prove everybody wrong,” he says. “I just don’t have that. I can’t manufacture that. I don’t want to.” Marissa adds, “There’s also more in life than playing football.”

“Yeah,” Trevor says. “And I think people mistake that for being a competitor. . . . I think that’s unhealthy to a certain extent, just always thinking that you’ve got to prove somebody wrong, you’ve got to do more, you’ve got to be better.”

Trevor Lawrence’s dad added that he’s not really only about winning the Super Bowl.

“Trevor has always been like this. Everybody in the family says that off the football field, Marissa, who played soccer at Division II Anderson University, is more competitive than he is. His father says, “He’s not award-driven. He’s not, ‘I want to win a Super Bowl at all costs.’ ”

While some fans might see this as a red flag, I think it’s quite the opposite. Trevor Lawrence has a good head on his shoulders, knows who he is, and he isn’t afraid to be introspective when talking about how he approaches the game that he devotes his life to. I think this is refreshing in a day-in-age where so many athletes continuously throw cliche after cliche out there when talking about their sport.

Trevor Lawrence isn’t afraid to show the world who he is, and he’ll likely be a bonafide stud in the NFL.
