NHL World Reacts To Jonathan Toews’s Bizarre Injury

Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews dropped a bombshell on the NHL world today when he announced that he would be out ‘indefinitely’ with an undefined injury. This news comes after the Hawks lost center Kirby Dach with a long term wrist injury.

Toews cited fatigue as part of his reason for seeking a medical diagnosis.

“This offseason, I’ve been experiencing symptoms that have left me feeling drained and lethargic. I am working with doctors so I can better understand my condition.

Until I can get my health back to a place where I feel I can perform at an elite level and help my team, I will not be joining the Blackhawks for training camp. I do not have a timetable for when I will rejoin the team. I am extremely disappointed, but it wouldn’t be fair to myself or my teammates to attempt to play in my current condition

I am grateful for the continuous support from and ongoing communication with the Blackhawks organization. Stan Bowman, Rocky Wirtz, Danny Wirtz, Jeremy Colliton and my teammates have been nothing but understanding of my situation, and I appreciate them standing by me.

To Blackhawks fans, I will continue to do whatever I can to get back on the ice and return to play the game I love for the team I love. I will not be making any further comment at this time and ask everyone to please respect my privacy as I focus on my health and recovery,” Toews said in a statement via the team’s website.

Chicago Blackhawks fans – and many other fans who just appreciate good hockey – on social media reacted to the sudden news of the three-time Stanley Cup Champion’s unexpected announcement.

First and foremost, I pray that Toews is alright. If there’s one thing I know about Jonathan Toews, it’s that if he could be playing, he would be playing. That’s what makes this whole situation so scary. I hope Toews figures out whatever is going on with him, and that we see him back out on the ice in the near future.

In the meantime, the Chicago Blackhawks are in trouble. They were already going to need the absolute best out of their star players if they were going to have any chance whatsoever of competing this season. After losing goalie Corey Crawford to free agency, trading Brandon Saad, and losing Jonathan Toews and Dach to injury, the Blackhawks are destined to be at the bottom of the Western Conference.

Those three Stanley Cups in the 2010s were fun though, right?
