Lonzo and LaMelo Ball Face Off For First Time in and NBA Game

Tonight is the night for the Ball Brothers, and what LaVar Ball has dreamed of for many years. He spoke it into existence. Friday night, his sons Lonzo Ball and LaMelo Ball will face off in an NBA game for the very first time. LaMelo Ball and his Charlotte Hornets are traveling to face Lonzo Ball and the New Orleans Pelicans on the road.

Oddly, the game also features related franchises, as the original Hornets moved to New Orleans in 2002, only to become the Pelicans, at which point the Hornets name and original franchise history were awarded back to the expansion team that Charlotte had been awarded in the interim, turning the Bobcats into the Charlotte Hornets once again.

Lonzo spoke about the showdown via Andrew Lopez at ESPN.

“I think it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Lonzo said on Thursday. “This is our first time matching up in a real game. … I think it just shows that all the hard work paid off. We’re really close, we grew up together doing the same thing even though he’s younger than I am.”

Lonzo said he has offered advice on adjusting to the NBA to his brother, who is three years younger.

“That’s probably the most competitive basketball I’ve been in — in the backyard, back there fighting, scrapping, falling on concrete, playing hella hard,” LaMelo said on Thursday. “Parents getting scared when their kids go back there. It was a whole lot. Just something you had to witness, for real.”

The game is on ESPN, so definitely a must watch matchup. Pretty cool for the Ball Brothers to be living out their dream. Lonzo Ball and LaMelo Ball have something to be proud of and a moment they will remember forever. And of course LaVar Ball does too.
