Hornets Star Devonte Graham Is Getting Interest From Two Other Eastern Conference Teams

Hornets guard Devonte Graham has been fairly underutilized this season due to the recent emergence of rookie standout LaMelo Ball. Just days away from the trade deadline, two other Eastern Conference teams are making a run for Devonte Graham. The Indiana Pacers and the New York Knicks are the frontrunners to trade for the 26-year-old point guard. Both teams could use some depth at the guard position on their respective rosters.

Via Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report:

“Hornets chief executive Mitch Kupchak is not known to swing many midseason deals, but the Indiana Pacers are a team to watch in this situation, sources said, as are the active Knicks. Perhaps there’s a deal that sends Myles Turner to Charlotte, which has long coveted a center, sources said, and the Pacers have maintained a willingness to discuss Turner dating back to last offseason.”

After a stellar 2019-20 campaign, Graham is only averaging 13.2 points, 5.2 assists, and 2.7 rebounds through 31 appearances. One thing that could prevent the Hornets from dealing Devonte Graham is the recent injury to their rookie star, LaMelo Ball. The Hornets announced Sunday that Ball, the No. 3 overall pick of this year’s draft, has suffered a fractured bone in his right wrist. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Ball is expected to miss the rest of the season. The Hornets may need Graham to step up in his absence.

Should the Hornets decide to make a trade for Devonte Graham, the Pacers seem like the best fit of their offers. The Pacers have emerged as an interesting trade partner and their center, Myles Turner would fit in on a Hornets roster that lacks prolific big men.

When all is said and done,  the idea of staying in Charlotte or getting traded to another team can still open up opportunities for Devonte Graham to bounce back. Look out for more details on Devonte Graham as the trade deadline quickly approaches.
