Packers GM Admits The Randall Cobb Trade Was All About Aaron Rodgers

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has arrived in Training camp after threatening to hold out due to a rift with the team’s front office.

One of Rodgers’ requests when he arrived at camp was for the team to make a deal for former receiver Randall Cobb.

During Aaron Rodgers long press conference on Wednesday, he opened up on how he wished that he was more of a part of the Packers’ decision-making process.

Sure enough, the Packers acquired Randall Cobb from the Houston Texans.

While admitting that Cobb was a fine player, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst claimed that he pulled the trigger on the Cobb deal for the sole purpose of keeping Aaron Rodgers happy.

“Obviously without Aaron, I don’t think we would probably be pursuing that, but he’s still a really good player,” Gutekunst told reporters at Packers training camp Thursday, via the Associated Press. “Seeing him last night just kind of reminded me of what kind of impact he’ll have in our locker room for our football team. This is a very important thing for Aaron, and that’s why we did it.”

Gutekunst would go on to say that Aaron Rodgers has always been a part of the teams’ decisions. But he also held firm on his decisions to let some of Rodgers’ targets go in the past, saying that the team shouldn’t be, “keeping players longer than we should.”

Randall Cobb was definitely one of those players he was referring to. So it might be a little awkward to have him back with the team.

However, this year is going to have be about keeping Aaron Rodgers happy. And Brian Gutekunst has done an awful job of that thus far.
