Patrick Mahomes Sends Heartfelt Message About Len Dawson Following the Death of the Former Chiefs QB

The NFL community has taken on a somber tone after it was announced that Hall of Fame quarterback Len Dawson has passed away at the age of 87.

He remains the Kansas City Chiefs leader in passing yards (28,507) and total touchdowns (237). Dawson also led the team to a Super Bowl IV win over the Minnesota Vikings.

“The NFL family mourns the loss of Hall of Fame QB and Chiefs legend, Len Dawson,” the NFL Twitter account posted earlier today. “We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

As Len Dawson was receiving tributes all over the web, Chiefs current quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, shared a nice message to the Hall of Famer.

“RIP to the legend Len Dawson. The legacy and impact you made on Kansas City will live on forever. Prayers to his family,” Mahomes captioned his Twitter post.

Len Dawson had entered hospice earlier in the month before passing with his family by his side.

“Len Dawson is synonymous with the Kansas City Chiefs,” owner Clark Hunt said in a statement on Wednesday. “Len embraced and came to embody Kansas City and the people that call it home. You would be hard-pressed to find a player who had a bigger impact in shaping the organization as we know it today than Len Dawson did.”

Back in 2017, Len Dawson credited all the people around him when talking about all the success he was able to have as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.

“Looking back on my career, I’ve been blessed for what I had the opportunity to do,” Dawson said told The Associated Press in 2017, shortly after he announced his retirement from his second career as a Hall of Fame broadcaster. “I could not have accomplished so much without my teammates and colleagues, and I’m grateful for each of them.”
