If this is it for Yu Darvish with the Chicago Cubs (and it sure looks like it is) then he will leave behind a rather complicated legacy. Darvish was given big money by Chicago after blowing up in Game 7 of 2017. For the first 1.5 years, Darvish struggled mightily with diminishing stuff and nagging injuries.

But then, something clicked for Darvish during the 2019 all-star break. Darvish finished off the second half strong that year, and then was one of the best pitchers in the entire MLB in the shortened 2020 season. He finished in second place behind Trevor Bauer for the Cy Young, and appears to have found his groove.

Darvish’s comeback story was one of the lone bright spots for the Cubs over the last two years. fter the Cubs won the World Series in 2016, they figured to be contending for the foreseeable future. Instead, they’ve continued to digress. We’ll see what the future holds for the Cubs and Darvish.

Somebody might want to let the man know that he’s been traded.
