Seahawks Reportedly Interested In Signing Richard Sherman To Bother Russell Wilson

Yes, you read that correctly. The Seattle Seahawks are reportedly interested in signing Richard Sherman to disrupt an already broken relationship with quarterback Russell Wilson. Earlier in the week, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Seahawks were open to bringing back “Legion of Boom” founding member Richard Sherman. While on the surface it feels like a good fit given the departure of Shaq Griffin, there may be an ulterior motive.

According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio Seattle’s interest in Sherman is strictly an attempt to peeve and prod quarterback Russell Wilson.

“While there’s a chance everyone involved is ready to let bygones be bygones, one league source tells PFT that the Seahawks are allowing the flirtation to be fueled as both a jab at Wilson’s current discontent — and as a reminder that the team weeded out those players (like Sherman) who had a problem with the way Wilson was treated by management.”

Talk about petty. If true, this is one of the strangest moves in my memory. Why would you want to irk Russell Wilson right now? There are still chances that Russell Wilson could leave Seattle. It doesn’t seem like doing something that could force his hand in the matter is in the best interest of the Seattle Seahawks.

Maybe they have let bygones be bygones, but Russell Wilson and Richard Sherman have been known to have a contentious relationship. In 2018, Sherman revealed that he and Wilson weren’t on speaking terms, saying that they were simply teammates and nothing more during their time with Seattle. However, the next season they were seen swapping jerseys. Maybe it is all just hearsay, but this feels like a petty move by the Seattle Seahawks.
