Dak Prescott Thanks Alex Smith For Inspiring Him While Rehabbing His Injury

When Dak Prescott went down with a season-ending ankle injury in Week 5 last season, the NFL world held its collective breath.

Dak is a young, rising star in the NFL. He was also playing under the franchise tag, so we didn’t know what the inury would mean for his future. Luckily for Prescott, he got paid a whole bunch of money anyways. This week, the Dallas Cowboys announced that they were signing Dak to a massive four year extension.

On Wednesday, the team held a press conference with Dak Prescott to officially announce the extension. Dak spoke candidly about the troubles that came with his brutal injury last season. He also gave a special shout out to Alex Smith, who famously recovered from a gruesome leg injury in 2018.

“I have to thank Alex Smith,” said Prescott via CBS Sports. “At that moment when you’re sitting there and you have an injury like that … to see somebody who has already done it — and did it actually in worse circumstances, that allowed my mind to go ‘I can do this.'”

Alex Smith returned to the Washington Football Team last season, and was listed as the third string quarterback coming into training camp. However, due to many different problems Washington had with the quarterback situation, Smith was thrusted into the starting gig by mid-season. He played well enough to get the team to the postseason, too. Alex Smith was named Comeback Player Of The Year, and he inspired many fans and players.

While Dak Prescott knows where he’ll be for a long time, Alex Smith has not made a decision on his future just yet. One thing is for sure, he has nothing left to prove.
