Watch Emotional Moment Between Ben Roethlisberger and Maurkice Pouncey

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and his center Maurkice Pouncey have been through a lot together. Now it appears that is is all coming to an end. While Pouncey hasn’t made an official announcement, it is expected that the veteran will retire after 10 seasons in the NFL.

In the waning moments of the Steelers playoff loss to the Browns yesterday, NFL Films caught Roethlisberger apologizing to Pouncey for how the game went down.

“I’m sorry, brother. You’re the only reason I wanted to do this, man. I feel worse for you than me. I hate it,” Ben Roethlisberger told Pouncey.

This season started out perfectly for the Pittsburgh Steelers. They were 11-0, and looked like one of the best teams in the NFL with Ben Roethlisberger and the passing game firing on all cylinders. And then, they hit a snag mid-season, and their struggles were put on full display during a Week 15 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

All of the sudden, Roethlisberger and the offense weren’t as good, and the defense wasn’t nearly as dominant. Nonetheless, the Steelers limped into the playoffs before being outed by the rival Browns.

We’ll see what’s next for the Steelers, but it looks like Ben Roethlisberger is beyond his years of elite play. If he doesn’t follow Maurkice Pouncey into retirement, he’s certainly heading in that direction very soon. I wouldn’t be too surprised if the Steelers start to consider their long term future instead of prioritizing short term success.
