NBA Big Man Christian Wood Reveals He Feared For His Life While Dealing With COVID-19

Christian Wood has had an up-and-down start to his NBA career. After being a bit of a bust in his first couple of seasons, Wood found his stride with the Detroit Pistons last year. Then he contracted COVID-19.

During an interview with The Ringer, Wood talked about his rise in the NBA. He also talked about his scary bout with COVID-19.

“It felt like I had the flu but 100 times worse,” Wood said. “For a second, it felt like I was about to die.”

Christian Wood went on to explain that he pleaded with God not to take his life. “You can’t do this to me, I’m playing the best basketball of my life,” Wood said.

Props to Christian Wood for revealing some seriously scary stuff here.

Wood was recently traded to the Houston Rockets in a sign-and-trade deal this offseason. It seems that Wood has recovered from his scare with COVID-19. However, his story should serve as a reminder to people just how scary this virus can be. It affects everyone differently. If Christian Wood, an athlete in peak shape, has to fear for his life due to COVID-19, that should tell people all they have to know.

Stay safe, wear a mask.

It will be interesting to see how Christian Wood’s basketball career progresses from here. He’ll look to continue his redemption story in Houston.
