There are so very few high profile NFL reporters who break the big stories, that sometimes when they get it wrong, they like to refute each other’s reports. That’s what happened this week when Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported Urban Meyer is seeking $12 million a year as the coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ian Rapoport was not having it, and took a shot at Pro Football Talk’s report.

The notion that Urban Meyer is seeking $12M a year to coach in the NFL is not accurate, source said. I’m sure the former Florida and OSU coach will be well compensated if he becomes the #Jaguars coach. But that number is not relevant and false.

Florio quote-tweeted Rapoport’s tweet, calling him out for being an employee of NFL.com.
Owners don’t want entry level coaches making a ton of money. So it’s not shocking that the league-owned media conglomerate would try to shoot down the notion that Urban Meyer wants an amount that is entirely fair and appropriate for him. https://t.co/C34um2qMUE

I do not like Urban Meyer at all, however, he is not "entry level". The best coaches will make the most money, as they should. If you don't want to spend the money on the best coaches, then you will have to hire "entry level" coaches. https://t.co/Nm8cpyQUTX

Who knows what to believe. Florio makes a good point about Rapoport being an NFL employee. How can he be impartial if he works for the very company he’s reporting on?
You have to enjoy a good reporter kerfuffle.
