Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence has tested positive for COVID

One of the most high-profile athletes in college sports and the projected #1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Trevor Lawrence, has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of Clemson’s game against Boston College on Saturday.

It’s hardly a surprise with the dramatic increase in cases nationwide, but serves as a reminder as to how difficult this college football season has been for many teams.

Right now it’s unclear whether Lawrence is the only Clemson Tiger who has contracted the virus. It’s also unclear whether Clemson will be able to play their game against Boston College this Saturday.

If Trevor Lawrence has to miss significant time, the Tigers will be forced to hand the quarterback job over to Freshman D.J. Uiagalelei. Clemson should be able to handle Boston College with or without Lawrence, but the big test looms the following Saturday.

Clemson is scheduled to head to South Bend and take on a fourth ranked Notre Dame team on Nov. 7. That game is the most anticipated showdown in South Bend in some time. It would be a shame if Lawrence had to miss the marquee matchup.

For now, though, it’s most important that Trevor Lawrence gets his health in order. The kid has a very bright future, it’s in everyone’s best interest to treat this situation with caution. Get well soon, Trevor Lawrence. College football won’t be the same without the dynamic quarterback.
