It looks like everything’s shaping up for a Jimmy Garoppolo trade this offseason.
Despite the Niners QB taking the team to the NFC Conference Championship for the second time in his career, a contingency plan was set in motion before the year even began when the team traded up in the draft to select Trey Lance.
Lance has spent most of the season learning Kyle Shanahan’s system while Garoppolo took the reigns. But now that the team has been eliminated, it’s likely time to face the reality that we’re not going to see Lance carrying a clipboard for another season.
When 49ers GM John Lynch was speaking on the plan for Jimmy Garoppolo, he admitted that while it will be hard, it’s likely the end of the veteran QB’s career in San Francisco.
#49ers John Lynch on Jimmy Garoppolo:
"No one wants to face the reality that this may be ending."

Where Will Jimmy Garoppolo Be Traded?
Now the question becomes: what type of interest will John Lynch get for Jimmy Garoppolo?
I think it’s pretty clear that given the amount of teams looking for a starting QB, we’ll see a large market for Jimmy G. The likes of the Steelers, Bucs, Saints, Packers, Broncos have gotten linked to Garoppolo already. He’s proven, he wins (a lot), and this particular upcoming draft class is considered weak at the QB position.
It’ll be interesting to see where John Lynch ends up trading Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason.
