Two Teams Reportedly Still In The Mix For Baker Mayfield

Where will Baker Mayfield land?

All offseason, we’ve heard speculation centered around the fiery quarterback after the Browns dealt for Deshaun Watson. But so far, Cleveland still hasn’t found a trade partner for Mayfield.

However, a new report says two teams are still kicking the tires on a potential move for Baker Mayfield: the Panthers and Seahawks.

Per Brandon Little of Sports Illustrated:

“Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks are both still interested in Mayfield’s services, but they don’t want to pay nearly all of his contract”

“In the end, the Browns are likely going to have to take on half of the $19 million that Mayfield is due in the 2022 season. When you think about it, that is cheap for a starting quarterback, but there is no promise Mayfield will start.”

For now, the Panthers seem intent on going with Sam Darnold until recently-drafted Malik Willis is ready to take on the QB1 role. And Pete Carroll has maintained that the Seahawks are content with their current quarterback battle involving veterans Drew Lock and Geno Smith.

But if the price tag comes down on Mayfield, or the Browns grant him his outright release, perhaps either the Panthers or Seahawks will give him a shot at redemption.

It wasn’t pretty for Baker Mayfield at the end of his run in Cleveland. But there were plenty of reasons to warrant him receiving a second chance throughout his Browns tenure.
