Video: Ravens Mascot Carted Off Field After Getting Tackled by Youth Football Player During Preseason Game

The Baltimore Ravens suffered an injury on Saturday night, but it might now be how or who you would expect.

When participating in a halftime show, their mascot, Poe, was playing against some youth football players. But when tackled by a fully-padded kid, Poe had to be carted off the field.

Per ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, the second half of the Ravens preseason game was pushed back due to the injury of their mascot, but people watching still couldn’t tell if the injury was part of a planned joke, or the real deal.

“Poe had to be lifted into the cart by three people and had to have his left leg stabilized,” noted ESPN staff writer Jamison Hensley, adding that Ravens head coach John Harbaugh walked onto the field to check on Poe, who remained in costume while being carted off to the locker room.

After the game, Harbaugh spoke on the situation with Poe.

“No updates on that,” he said with a smile. “There will be an MRI tomorrow, I’m sure.”

Darren M. Haynes, sports director for the CBS-TV affiliate, said that Poe was actually looked at by Ravens doctors about potentially tearing his ACL.

“UPDATE: I’m told, Ravens mascot with possible torn ACL. He is seeing team doctor, Dr. Andrew Tucker, now,” he tweeted.

A replacement for Poe was able to put on the costume and take on the duties for the second half of the game.

The Ravens would end up beating the Commanders 17-15 on Saturday — extending their wild preseason winning streak to 23 games.
