Denzel Mims Trade Rumors: Jets Receiver Puts on Impressive Preseason Performance After Requesting Trade

Even after requesting a trade late last week, New York Jets receiver Denzel Mims still suited up for the preseason game against the Giants Sunday.

And with potential teams watching, he put on a show.

In the 31-27 preseason win, Mims had seven receptions for 102 yards on the afternoon, proving that he could bolster just about anyone’s receiver room.

“It’s just time,” agent Ron Slavin wrote in a statement about the trade request . “Denzel has tried in good faith but it’s clear he does not have a future with the Jets. Denzel vowed to come back better than ever this season and he worked extremely hard in the offseason to make that happen. Still, he has been given no opportunities to work with the starting offense to get into a groove with them. We feel at this point a trade is our only option since the Jets have repeatedly told us they will not release him. [General manager] Joe Douglas has always done right by Denzel and we trust that he will do everything in his power to find him another team where Denzel can be a contributor.”

According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, the Jets currently plan to grant Denzel Mims his trade request, but they won’t give him away for nothing.

“They will not, though, give him away. They believe Mims has talent & like their receiving unit with him on it,” Hughes said in a tweet. “Only way a trade happens is if #NYJ get what they believe is equal value.”

Where Will Denzel Mims Land?

While reports have not indicated who’s currently calling jets GM Joe Douglas about acquiring Denzel Mims, there are several teams who have been linked to the receiver.

After losing Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr over the past year, the Browns are certainly a suitor for any possible receiver on the market. While they paid up to land former Cowboys receiver Amari Cooper in the offseason, the receiver position is still an area they may continue to add at before getting Deshaun Watson back.

The Green Bay Packers also could be a contender looking to bolster their receiver room after losing Davante Adams in the offseason. Showing impatience working with his young receiver group, Packers QB Aaron Rodgers voiced his displeasure with his weapons following a Training Camp practice.

“A lot of drops, a lot of bad route decisions, running the wrong route,” Rodgers explained. “We’ve got to get better in that area.

“(The regular season is) coming up. Yeah, it’s coming up. It really is. We’re going to play our best guys when the season starts. And whoever those guys are, those guys are going to get the reps. It’s the guys I trust the most and the guys the coaches trust the most.

Other teams such as the Bears, Broncos and Falcons could be potential players in any Denzel Mims trade. And given that the Jets receiver is still only 24 years old, it wouldn’t be overly surprising if any team decided to take a chance on the former second round draft pick.

Throughout his two year career, Mims has just 36 receptions for for 490 yards.
