Colts Owner Jim Irsay Throws Carson Wentz Straight Under The Bus When Talking Matt Ryan Trade

It’s safe to say Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay isn’t going to miss having Carson Wentz as his quarterback.

When speaking to reporters at the NFL owners meetings this week, Irsay confirmed his belief that Wentz was someone who the Colts needed to move on from as an organization.

“It’s just, for us, it was just it was something that we had to move away from as a franchise — it was very obvious,” Irsay said.

Despite Jim Irsay’s comments, Colts head coach Frank Reich took the high road when speaking about Carson Wentz. The HC-QB duo was likely the focal point of the idea to bring in Wentz, given their familiarity together dating back to their days in Philly.

“I love the guy, I really do. And I think he’s a really good quarterback,” Reich said. “He’s going to play really well for the Commanders and I’m excited to see that. … We as an organization thought highly of Carson in a lot of ways. Obviously, we traded for him. But then secondly, sometimes you can’t explain everything. You want to, but you just have to make a move that you think is right.”

Last season, Carson Wentz threw for 27 TDs and just seven interceptions. But down the stretch, he failed to step up with the season on the line. And Jim Irsay reportedly wasn’t too fond of his leadership skills, either.

So now the Colts will go back to the drawing board with another veteran quarterback in Matt Ryan. However, it would probably be a good idea for them to consider beefing up their QB room during the NFL Draft.
