Utah Jazz Are Locked in ‘Ongoing Talks’ to Trade for Lakers Star Russell Westbrook

Looks like the Utah Jazz might have a new star on the way to replace Donovan Mitchell.

Earlier in the week it was reported the Utah Jazz were speaking to the Lakers, mostly inquiring about the Lakers trade bait.

“They’ve been talking to the Lakers. The Jazz made an offer to the Lakers. The Lakers made a counteroffer to the Jazz,” Jones said. “Those two offers were far apart, and I don’t know that there’s gonna be enough of a gap to be bridged in order for a trade to happen there.”

Now it seems that has gained some momentum.  The Athletic is reporting that the Utah Jazz are locked in “ongoing talks” with the Los Angeles Lakers over a deal that would consolidate the Jazz roster and acquire more assets.

Via The Athletic:

“The Jazz are currently at 17 players, which means the roster will have to be trimmed by at least two by some point before the beginning of the regular season. And the front office isn’t done taking trade calls. League sources indicate a market for Bogdanovic at the very least, of which there is significant interest for the 6-foot-8 shooting forward.”

Utah might just be the perfect fit at the perfect time for Russell Westbrook. The Utah Jazz have both players of interest to LA and they also have the salary to match. Westbrook makes $47 million in 2022-23. They could trade Mike Conley ($22.6M), Bojan Bogdanovic ($19.3 million) and Rudy Gay ($6.1M).

The Jazz could also move off Jordan Clarkson’s $13.3M salary.

Definitely sounds like this might just work, and we know Russell just listed his house for sale in Los Angeles…
