Brett Baty MLB Debut: Mets Prospect Goes Deep In First Big League At-Bat

The New York Mets excited fans everywhere when they announced late last night that one of their top prospects, Brett Baty, was set to join there big league club today.

Mets manager Buck Showalter wasted no time slating Baty into the Mets lineup for tonight’s game against the division-rival Braves, and he made sure to make an impact right away.

In his first at-bat against Braves starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi, the young third baseman sent a ball flying over the right field wall for his first major league home run.

Prior to the game, Brett Baty spoke on how excited he was to be joining the Mets.

“It wasn’t on my mind at all,” Baty said to ESPN. “I was just thinking about winning ballgames for Syracuse. But now I’m here, so it’s about winning ballgames for the New York Mets.”

Sure enough, Baty is already making an impact in the major leagues for a championship contender in the Mets. But just because he’s been tearing up the minor leagues for the past three years doesn’t mean he’s willing to put ridiculous expectations on himself.

“I’m not putting any expectations on myself,” Baty said. “I’m just gonna go out there and play to the best of my ability. I’m here for a reason. I’ll let it show and do my best out there.”

With the Mets in buyer mode this Trade Deadline, it’s highly likely that some sellers were looking to pry Brett Baty away from Queens, but the Mets have to feel pretty happy they decided not to.

Brett Baty looks like the type of kid who’s poised to stay in New York for the long haul.
