Kawhi Leonard Addresses Upcoming Free Agency

For Kawhi Leonard, it’s going to be free agent time soon enough. The Los Angeles Clippers star says he’ll assess his free agency situation when the time is right. Leonard talked about his potential free agency for the first time by keeping the focus on the upcoming season. Kawhi has a player option for the 2021-22 season, and he would become an unrestricted free agent the following year.

“For my situation right now, I’m just focused on this season,” Leonard said. “I’m not saying I’m going anywhere else or staying here, but I’m just focused on the season. Obviously, if I stay healthy, the best decision is to decline a player option, but that doesn’t mean I’m leaving or staying… We’ll talk about that when the time is right.”

Kawhi Leonard is naturally looking for a supermax deal to round out his prime playing years. Assuming everything is going well with the Clippers, I can just see him staying in Los Angeles to finish out the second half of his career.

But you never know what can happen between now and then. One thing is for sure, Kawhi Leonard is going to get paid.
