Washington Has Officially Been Rebranded As ‘Washington Football Team’ And LeBron Quickly Roasted Them For It

It’s a brave new day in Washington! After Reddit investigators thought they figured out that the team would be called the DC Sentinels, Dan Snyder and company have made a pivot…to the Washington Football Team:

Sure it sounds like an SEO listing so that people would find out about the team while searching for local football teams. But it’s still something of an improvement on being overtly racist? Gotta take the victories where you can get them.

Either way, there was a lot of very visceral reacting on Twitter, as there always is. But the cross-sport roast from LeBron James had to sting a little:

And honestly LeBron is a bit of a branding expert, as evidenced by his whole career, so it actually comes from a place of knowledge. Washington Football Team is the equivalent of going to a grocery store and leaving with generic brand Froot Loops called Fruity Circles. Or, more cynically, it’s like going to school and getting a carton of malk:

But again, still an improvement! Just…like, not a good improvement. And now Ron Rivera and company will be chock full of Vitamin R for as long as Dan Snyder steadfastly refuses to sell. A win-win for the marriage of incompetence and mediocrity that is the Washington Football Team.
