Aaron Rodgers Speaks On Damaged Relationship With GM Brian Gutekunst

It has been highly documented that a large reason why Aaron Rodgers was asking for a trade and contemplating retirement in the offseason had to do with his relationship with general manager Brian Gutekunst.

When Rodgers arrived to Training Camp, he claimed that his frustration stems from being left out of the loop and not given a seat at the table when it comes to roster decisions by the Packers brass.

On Wednesday, Aaron Rodgers admitted that his relationships with Gutekunst is still a ‘work in progress’.

“I think it’s a work in progress for sure,” Rodgers said. “I think relationships aren’t formed in a matter of a couple days. There’s time where respect grows, and the communication follows.”

Brian Gutekunst obviously ruffled some feathers when he drafted Jordan Love, seemingly setting up a plan to replace Rodgers. But Aaron Rodgers is adamant that he’s more upset about the team getting rid of receivers without asking him first.

One of the players he pointed to when making his point about Gutekunst and the front office letting his favorite targets go was Randall Cobb.

After reaching a deal with the Texans, the Packers made sure to get Cobb back prior to the 2021-22 season.

“Without Aaron, we probably wouldn’t be pursuing it,” Brian Gutekunst told reporters at the time. “Randall’s still a good player. … This is what Aaron wanted, that’s why we did it.”

It’s possible that the relationship between Brian Gutekunst and Aaron Rodgers is improving. But I’m willing to bet Rodgers has already decided that they’ll never be particularly close.
