Greg Norman Sends Scathing Letter To PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan Amid Saudi League Drama

Despite most of the professional golf stars pledging their allegiance to the PGA amid the rumors of a new Saudi league coming in and swooping some of the sport’s best for higher play, former star Greg Norman has a bad taste in his mouth.

Specifically, Norman has taken issue with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan saying players will not be allowed to play on his tour if they join another.

On Thursday, Greg Norman sent a scathing letter to Monahan — calling on him to stop dictating what players can or can’t do with their own opportunities.

“Simply put, you can’t ban players from playing golf,” Norman wrote. “Players have the right and the freedom to play where we like. I know for a fact that many PGA players were and still are interested in playing for a new league, in addition to playing for the Tour. What is wrong with that?

“What is wrong with allowing players to make their own decisions about where to play and how often to play? What is so wrong with player choice? Why do you feel so threatened that you would resort to such a desperate, unwise, and unenforceable threat?”

Even before Greg Norman’s bizarre involvement in all of this, the new Saudi feel has had an eery feel to it from the start.

Not only are we not sure when the league starts, who’s involved, and how they’re going to pay players more. But Phil Mickelson is now under fire for some ignorant comments about getting into business with the “scary” people who started this Saudi league.

“They’re scary m—–f—— to get involved with,” Mickelson said in an interview that appeared in the Fire Pit Collective website

“We know they killed (Washington Post reporter and U.S. resident Jamal) Khashoggi and have a horrible record on human rights,” he said. “They execute people over there for being gay. Knowing all of this, why would I even consider it? Because this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shape how the PGA Tour operates.”

Now that Phil Mickelson has taken a break from competitive golf following his comments, it appears that Greg Norman is the main voice for the Saudi league at this present moment.

Not a great look for a league that supposedly wants to take the greatest golfers in the world away from the PGA…
