When you’re a professional athlete, someone is always listening. PGA golfer Justin Thomas is in hot water for a homophobic slur he said in anger after missing a putt in in the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. The former No. 1 said he was distracted in the final round by the “terrible, terrible mistake” he made in Saturday’s third round.
Thomas missed a short putt on the fourth hole and can be heard on the audio feed.

“I’m praying for you” stfu he said f*got bc he missed a hole. It’s sad to see people supporting him saying it. I understand it was unintentional but I’m tired of Christians supporting this behavior https://t.co/QqVdLKtg9h

I’m really sick of celebrities getting to say this word and then just apologizing when they get caught. You don’t say a word publicly unless you say it privately also, right? https://t.co/OjvvL9ZcmP

It’s a golf ball, who are you calling a f✿ggot!? https://t.co/0aB82hC98w— Terra🌎 (@Terrayaki3) January 11, 2021
Thomas apologized after realizing that a Golf Channel microphone caught him calling himself “f*ggot.”
“There’s absolutely no reason for me to say anything like that,” he said, per the New York Post. “It’s terrible. I’m extremely embarrassed. It’s not who I am.” He added that he was “very apologetic.”
There’s no place for slurs on a golf course. Period.
