Panthers head coach Matt Rhule has some tough decisions ahead of him. While the Panthers will be hiring a new GM this offseason, a lot of the current roster decisions will likely depend on how Rhule will evaluate his team after his first year at the helm.
The first major decision Rhule and the Panther will have is, “who will the quarterback be in 2021?” Teddy Bridgewater showed glimpses of competent play this season, but I’m not sure he’ll really be the long term option for the team.
Matt Rhule Was asked whether Teddy would be his quarterback next season during his end of the year presser.
“We’ll see what happens moving forward,” Rhule said via ESPN.
“Teddy is here. I have a lot of respect for him. I believe in what he can do. I’ve seen glimpses, flashes of us as an offense looking really good. We need to get Christian [McCaffrey] back. We need to have a run game we can rely on.
“With regards to the draft and players, we’ll look at every opportunity to have the best we can have at every position, and that includes the quarterback position.”

This answer really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, Bridgewater did nothing this season to make anyone think that’s he’s the right guy to take the Panthers to the next level.
However, the team could be in a tough position. The Panthers are going to have the 8th overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, and I’m not sure that will be high enough to find a franchise quarterback this year. Behind Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields and Zach Wilson, there aren’t many quarterback prospects coming into the NFL. All three of those players will undoubtedly be gone by the time the eight pick rolls around.
Now, Rhule and the new GM can try to find another QB in free agency, but you already tried that last year with Bridgewater, and it didn’t really work out.
The Panthers might have to stick with Teddy Bridgewater for another season, while grooming a project type of quarterback underneath him.
There’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Carolina Panthers quarterback position.
