The Carolina Panthers Are Reportedly Prepared To Part Ways With Christian McCaffrey If It Means Landing Deshaun Watson

The Carolina Panthers are reportedly IN on the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes.

After trying out Teddy Bridgewater for a year, it appears that Matt Rhule and the Panthers’ front office has made their decision that he isn’t their “guy” for the future. They were said to have given a lucrative offer to the Lions for Matthew Stafford, but ultimately couldn’t match the Rams. Now, they’ve apparently turned the page to Deshaun Watson.

Watson is the biggest prize on the trade market. While the Texans say they have no plans to move their quarterback, it also seems like he doesn’t have any plans to show up to Houston. Meaning something has gotta give. The panthers are hoping they can offer the Texans a package they simply can’t refuse. That package reportedly includes All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey.

Panthers reporter and ESPN insider David Newton went on NFL Live today and revealed that the team was prepared to give up McCaffrey and multiple first round picks for Deshaun Watson.

“The Panthers will do whatever it takes to get Deshaun Watson, and that includes giving up three first-round draft picks and (running back) Christian McCaffrey,” Newton said on ESPN’s NFL Live today, via 247Sports. ” Owner David Tepper wants to win a Super Bowl. He’s made that clear.

He understand it takes a marquee quarterback to do that. If you look at recent history, outside of (Kansas City Chiefs quarterback) Patrick Mahomes, the quickest way to do that is to trade for a marquee quarterback and not draft one in the first round. Just ask Tampa Bay.”

Sideaction’s Latest:

Carolina would certainly be a fun landing spot for Deshaun Watson. They’re an up-and-coming team in the league, with a young head coach and a solid defense. Maybe adding Deshaun Watson puts them into the conversation for a Super Bowl. If landing Watson means giving away McCaffrey, then so be it. The Panthers are going to have to make a ballsy move like this if they want to make the next leap, and if I was a fan I’d be all for it.

Don’t be surprised if Deshaun Watson ends up in Carolina this offseason.
