Michael Phelps Trending After It Was Reported That Runner Sha’Carri Richardson Likely To Miss Olympics After Testing Positive For Weed

On Thursday night, it was reported the Sha’Carri Richardson will likely have to miss her event at the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for marijuana.

Richardson qualified for the USA olympics team after winning the 100-meter final in 10.86 seconds after winning her semifinal heat.

Richardson is expected to be suspended during the 100m at the Olympics but she might get to run on the 4×100 relay.

Shortly after the news broke, fans want to know why Michael Phelps was able to compete in the Olympics after famously being seen smoking a bong during a college visit, but the hammer is now being brought down on Sha’Carri Richardon.

I’m picturing Stephen A. Smith yelling into the camera for Sha’Carri Richardson to, “lay off the weed!”. But honestly, I’m with all the Twitter users here.

Richardson did nothing that Michael Phelps wasn’t doing throughout his storied career. She has also been waiting her whole life for this moment, and to strip it away for something as juvenile as weed feels absurd.

After all, weed is now becoming more and more normalized all throughout the United States. If we were going to give Michael Phelps a pass back in the day, shouldn’t we do the same for Sha’Carri Richardson?
