Sandy Lyle Is Breaking The Internet With His Masters Outfit

Thursday morning’s long, expected weather delay has come to an end, and the 2020 Masters is back in action. In light of the return, one golfer seems to be enjoying himself more than the rest of the field. Sandy Lyle, a 62-year-old golfer from Scotland, is going viral for his outfit at Augusta National for the first round of The Masters. The internet is pretty split on Lyle’s outfit, however, many are giving him props for his bold choice of attire.

Suspenders for The Masters, why not, right? If The Masters was a fashion contest Sand Lyle would have already won in the eyes of many older golf fans. Younger fans aren’t quite as keen on the Scottish golfer’s attire, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping him any time soon.

Sandy Lyle had a message for Augusta National ahead of this year’s Masters. However, it didn’t have anything to do with his wardrobe. Rather, it was about the younger Bryson DeChambeau. Lyle said that as best as Augusta National tries, they can’t Bryson-proof the course.

“Last year, he was in a group in front of me,” Sandy Lyle said, “and I remember his shots off eight and 13 and where he was playing his second shots from. I knew if I hit my best drive, I couldn’t get anywhere near about 50 or 60 yards of his drives.”

Sandy Lyle sits just two strokes behind the younger DeChambeau in the first round of The Masters. Maybe his suspenders will give him some good luck and boost his game as he chases Bryson in the leaderboards.

The first round of The Masters is currently underway. Full television coverage begins at 1 p.m. E.T. on ESPN.
