Division Rival On 49ers Interest In Mac Jones: ‘I’ll Believe It When I See It’

When the 49ers traded up to the #3 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, many assumed they were locked in on Justin Fields (or maybe even Trey Lance). However, it has been widely reported that Kyle Shanahan might have his eyes on Alabama’s Mac Jones with the #3.

Some people think the 49ers’ interest in Jones is a smokescreen, while others believe there is legitimately a chance Jones ends up as the Niners’ franchise quarterback.

Now, an anonymous NFL employee of a 49ers rival is revealing that he isn’t buying the hype around the 49ers and Mac Jones.

“I’ll believe Mac Jones when I see [NFL commissioner Roger] Goodell read the card, and even then I’m checking for CGI,” the rival personnel man said to NFL insider Benjamin Allbright.

Kyle Shanahan was in attendance for Justin Fields’s second Pro Day, and if I had to guess, I’d say that’s the pick San Francisco is going to make later in the month. It just makes too much sense.

Justin Fields can grow into the role, with Jimmy Garoppolo starting the year as the 49ers quarterback, and then he’ll take over when the time is right.

I think the 49ers would be crazy to select Mac Jones third overall with all the athleticism Justin Fields presents.
