Patrick Mahomes Very Nearly Had To Miss Super Bowl LV Because Of COVID Barber

We were very nearly without Patrick Mahomes for the Super Bowl this weekend due to a barber debacle that left two Chiefs players on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

According to NFL.com, a barber was let into the Chiefs facility to cut a lot of the players’ hair. When his rapid COVID test showed up positive, they immediately removed the barber from the facility. Unfortunately, he had already been in close contact with two Chiefs players, receiver Demarcus Robinson and center Daniel Kilgore. Those players now have their statuses in question for the big game.

The biggest bombshell of this whole story is that the barber was also scheduled to cut quarterback Patrick Mahomes’s hair.

“There were over 20 Chiefs players and staffers, including QB Patrick Mahomes, scheduled Sunday to get a haircut with the barber who tested positive for COVID, per sources. The Chiefs acted wisely and aggressively, and pulled the barber – mid-cut – once his test results came in,” NFL insider Adam Schefter wrote on his Twitter.

Can you imagine if we had to hold our breaths this whole week, not knowing if Mahomes would’ve been able to play the Super Bowl? That would’ve sucked. Luckily, the Chiefs acted swiftly and removed the barber while he was cutting Kilgore’s hair. The center took to social media to make a joke out of the whole situation.

I think we can all have a laugh now knowing that we’ll be able to watch Patrick Mahomes play this weekend.
