NYC Mayor Speaks On Kyrie Irving Vaccine Mandate Decision

Earlier today, NBA commissioner Adam Silver expressed some optimism that the newly-elected NYC mayor Eric Adams will allow Kyrie Irving to play in home games sometime soon.

“This law in New York, the oddity of it to me is that it only applies to home players,” Silver said, via ESPN. “I think if ultimately that rule is about protecting people who are in the arena, it just doesn’t quite make sense to me that an away player who is unvaccinated can play in Barclays but the home player can’t. To me, that’s a reason they should take a look at that ordinance.”

Shortly after Adam Silver’s comments, Eric Adams was asked for his stance on the Kyrie Irving situation.

While admitting that it was “unfair” that the home team’s players should face a rule that away team players don’t have to worry about, Adams said he was “struggling” with an overall decision on the matter.

Since re-joining the Nets a short time ago, Kyrie Irving has appeared in just 14 games — averaging 24.1 points, 5.4 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game.

The Nets are currently in the midst of a prolonged 11-game losing streak, so obviously they’re hoping Eric Adams changes the mandate for all New York unvaxxed athletes.

I’d be willing to bet that Kyrie Irving is playing in home games by the end of the season.
