Mike Tomlin Has Telling Comments About Quarterbacks Mason Rudolph Or Dwayne Haskins Replacing Big Ben

For the first time since becoming the head coach of the Steelers, Mike Tomlin will likely have to move forward without having Ben Roethlisberger as his starting quarterback.

Everything points to Big Ben announcing his retirement in the coming days, which begs the question: who will Tomlin turn to under center in 2022?

Right now, Pittsburgh has both Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins on their roster. But given their opportunities, neither has looked the part of a franchise quarterback. Nevertheless, Mike Tomlin sounds set on giving them a chance to prove themselves this offseason.

Tomlin insinuated on Tuesday that both Rudolph and Haskins will likely battle for the starting QB job in 2022.

While Mike Tomlin didn’t sound overly confident in the abilities of Mason Rudolph or Dwayne Haskins to follow in the footsteps of Ben Roethlisberger, he also knows that it might come down to that likelihood when Training Camp rolls around next year.

The Steelers don’t have a high draft pick. And unless they can land Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Jimmy Garoppolo, or someone else in a trade, the market for a starting quarterback is rather scarce right now.

Dwayne Haskins or Mason Rudolph won’t get Steelers fans excited, but perhaps Mike Tomlin can work his magic when developing one or both of his current backup QBs.
