Mike Davis Isn’t Happy After Being Fined For Trucking A Defender

Carolina Panthers running back Mike Davis has filled in admirably all year for the injured superstar running back Christian McCaffrey. Davis has proven to be a valuable NFL weapon in both the pass and run game, and can bounce off tackles like its nothing.

Just ask Vikings rookie D.J Wonnum about Davis’s power. During their game on Nov. 29 Davis lowered the boom on the unsuspecting Wonnum. Now, Davis has announced on Twitter that he has been fined for the play.

Davis does lower his helmet to initiate contact here, so I guess, by the letter of the law, it does break the NFL’s new rule. However, it seems pretty odd to me that they would choose to fine Davis for this. How many running backs have trucked through a defender without a fine? It kind of seems like there isn’t much rhyme or reason to the plays that the league office chooses to fine or not fine.

We need some more clarity and consistency when enforcing these rules.

Call me old-school, but I love a nice power running back lowering his head and running straight through a defender. It seems like the Carolina Panthers agree. Mike Davis is the last of a dying breed, and the NFL has made it clear that they are not a fan of his style.
