Mark Cuban Has A Theory About Why Luka Is Out Of Shape

Many fans noticed that Luka Doncic didn’t appear to be in prime shape as he entered the preseason. He quickly became a meme and people were even calling him “fat Luka”. It is hard to knock the superstar for much on or off the court. However, fans have been mocking him for his lack of stamina entering this season. Franchise owner Mark Cuban believes he knows the reason behind Doncic’s lack of basketball shape. His theory may seem like an excuse to some, but it definitely has some merit to it.

Luka was originally scheduled to play for and train with the Slovenian National team during the offseason. When international play was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, Doncic was deprived of some critical workouts. Mark Cuban believes that is a crucial reason for Luka’s lack of speed and stamina that he has been so heavily criticized for this season.

Luka acknowledged his lack of conditioning in a press conference following the Mavs’ final preseason game. He stated that he’s never been the type of player to rely on an overly-athletic build, but he’s working to improve as the season moves forward.

Despite missing out on some critical conditioning time, Luka has looked as great as ever to start his third year in the NBA. The superstar point-forward has averaged 27.7 points, 6.7 assists, and seven rebounds through Dallas’ first three games. If this is what “fat Luka” can do he will be virtually unstoppable once he gets back into prime playing shape.
