Fan Who Threw Water Bottle At Kyrie Irving Has Court Hearing, Ordered To Keep Away From TD Garden

Boston Celtics fans were bound to give Kyrie Irving a hard time when he returned to TD garden with the Brooklyn Nets during the first round playoff series. But what transpired over the weekend has no place in the game.

After Kyrie was messing around on the Celtics logo, a fan chucked a water bottle down at him as he was walking into the locker room.

That fan who tossed the bottle at Kyrie Irving has since been identified as 21-year-old Cole Buckley–who had his day in court on Wednesday afternoon.

Buckley was charged with assault and battery, and was ordered to stay away from the TD Garden in the future.

Kyrie Irving believes that this and other acts around the NBA Playoffs have some racism involved, as fans treat the predominantly black NBA players like they’re ‘in a zoo’.

“(It’s) just underlying racism, and treating people like they’re in a human zoo,” Irving said.

“Throwing stuff at people, saying things. There’s a certain point where it gets to be too much,” Kyrie Irving continued. “You see people just feel very entitled out here. … As a Black man playing in the NBA, dealing with a lot of this stuff, it’s fairly difficult. You never know what’s going to happen.”

Kyrie Irving and the Nets made quick work of the Celtics in just five games, and will now look forward to a marquee matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks in round two.
