If Packers backup quarterback Jordan Love were ready to take over in Green Bay, you’d probably be hearing all the praise from coaches and teammates by now. Unfortunately, it seems like the young QB is still working out the kinks, which should give Aaron Rodgers some leverage as he continues to contemplate his future with the Packers.
With Rodgers and several Packers receivers absent from team OTAs, Jordan Love is getting more attention than he ever has. And when talking about his performance, nobody seems to thinks he’s pushing the envelope.
Packers reporter Andy Herman is at the team’s minicamp, and has hinted that Jordan Love remains uncomfortable in the offense.
Jordan Love has taken a bunch of team reps during the open sessions last week and this week and I’m not sure I’ve seen more than 2 balls go farther than 5 yards downfield. Some quick throws but a TON of check downs.

FS1 host Colin Cowherd spoke on Wednesday about how Jordan Love’s iffy performance is giving Aaron Rodgers all the leverage in his situation with the Packers organization.

Packers tight end Robert Tonyan (who is one of the few starter to attend OTAs) said that he sees Love getting better, but also admitted that he still needs to get more reps.
“I think just honestly he’s getting more reps and more opportunity to go out there and control the huddle and control the game and control the offense and be the leader out there,” Tonyan told reporters Wednesday. “I think it’s good for him. He didn’t get much opportunity with that sitting behind Aaron (Rodgers) and Tim (Boyle), and no preseason games (in 2020), so I think him being the guy this OTAs has been beneficial to him.”
While COVID complicated a lot of things last year, Jordan Love still has a full season under his belt.
If he is still unable to really take over the Packers offense, it may be possible that Love isn’t “the guy” for the Packers future.
If Love can’t play, and Aaron Rodgers opts not to show up to the Green Bay Packers in 2021, they will obviously be in a lot of trouble.
We’ll see if Jordan Love can rise to the occasion now that the spotlight is finally shining his way. So far, it doesn’t really sound like that’s the case.
